Marty L. Joplin, 60, of Dickens, was received by his Lord and Savior in heaven on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. Marty was born on June 9, 1961, in Yuma, Yuma County, Arizona, to Wynona Evelyn (Dixon) Joplin and the late Bobby Wayne Joplin.
Marty married Mitzi Taylor, and they were married on September 14, 2019, at Lake Ransom Canyon.
Growing up in the Lubbock area, he attended Lubbock Cooper High and graduated with the senior class of 1979. He attended South Plains College, earning an associate degree in diesel mechanics, in 1981. He farmed in the Slaton area until 2000. Marty then became a Deputy Sheriff with the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office, serving in that capacity from 1999 until his retirement on May 31, 2020.
Marty loved to hunt and fish, roping, farming and ranching. He loved his family, all animals and supported the Haven Animal Care Shelter faithfully. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Slaton.
Those left to cherish and honor Marty's memory include his wife, Mitzi; two sons, Stormy Joplin and his wife Lyndie of Lubbock, and Dusty Joplin and his wife Robyn of Levelland; his mother, Wynona Joplin of Lubbock; two grandchildren, Savannah and Jordan Joplin; nephew, Wes Joplin and his wife Say of Spur and a niece, Jenna Phillips and her husband Justin of Dumas; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Marty was preceded in death by his father in August of 1974, two brothers, Anthony and Barry Joplin, and one niece, Ashley Usery.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, January 28, 2022, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Pastor David Eppler, Chaplain with Hospice of Lubbock, will be officiant. Inurnment will take place in Slaton's Englewood Cemetery following services. Memorial services and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Marty's memory and honor be directed to the Haven Animal Care Shelter, 4501 FM 1729, Lubbock, TX 79403.
