Mary "Nana" Garza

Mary "Nana" Garza, 80, of Lubbock, and beloved mother of Linda, Jim, Norma, Ruben and Josie, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on April 14, 1944, in Hearne, Robertson County, Texas to the late Annis (Gonzales) Gomez.

Mary was married to Emilio Garza, but he preceded her in death on May 6, 2020. 

Mary was an overall loveable person who cared deeply for her grandchildren, who loved their grandmothers cooking and being spoiled by her. She loved to watch television and hang out with friends and her family. Mary worked as a housekeeper for many years, before retiring in 2006.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her five children: Linda Cantu (Paul) of Lubbock, Jim Garza (Lisa) of Lubbock, Norma Torres of Lubbock, Ruben Garza (Belinda) of Ft. Worth, TX, and Josie Garza of Lubbock; four brothers: Joe Herrera (Janie) of Lubbock, Felix Herrera of Lubbock, Paul Herrera of Lubbock, and Fred Herrera of Lubbock; 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, one daughter Angie Mendez, one brother Frank Herrera, and seven sisters: Frances Herrera, Elvida Gonzales, Gloria Herrera, Elvina Quintero, Margaret Cavazos, Santos Reyes, and Victoria Herrera, and her beloved grandson, Josiah (BB) Michael Mareno.  She was also preceded in death by her grandmother, Conception Gomez.

A visitation for Mary will be held from 3 PM to 8 PM in the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, in the building directly to the east of Combest Family Funeral Home.  There will also be a short Prayer Service at 6 PM that evening, with Pastor Fermin Sifuentez. Cremation will follow under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
