Mary McKibben

December 15, 1936 — March 17, 2024

Lubbock, TX

Mary McKibben, age 87, went to be with her Savior on March 17, 2024.

Mary was born in Ryan, Oklahoma on December 15, 1936 to Alvie Dewbre and Thelma Bowden Dewbre. She was preceded in death by her sisters Ruth Green and Joyce McCord, who always referred to their little sister as “Mary Fern.”

Mary worked as a meter maid, at a doctor’s office, and later in life put herself through college to become a nurse. She thoroughly enjoyed working at nursing homes and sharing her giving and caring heart (as well as candy and generous gifts) with her patients and fellow nurses.

She married Don McKibben and soon after they started their family with Dexter, Vicki Ann, Clint, and Cindy.  Mary flourished in her role of “Granny” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Granny truly missed her beloved grandson Jason, who died too soon. Mary and Don were married close to 60 years before Don passed away in 2012.

Mary and Don traveled yearly with their grandchildren to Colorado Springs. Age did not slow down her travels, as she visited Australia, Germany, and Las Vegas. She could be counted on to convince anyone who would listen to take her on just a little trip.

Mary loved her dogs, collecting angels, and always telling a great story. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Mary is survived by her children: Dexter McKibben and wife Vicki, Clint McKibben and wife Annette, and Cindy McKibben Beard and Mike Cress.  Five grandchildren: Kristel Sexton and husband Joel, Dallas McKibben and wife Kari, Candice Saffle and husband Cole, Amber Smith and husband Josh, and Michael McKibben and wife Brittany. Seventeen grandchildren: Hayli, Madeline, and Presley Sexton; Isobel, Emery, Dublin, and Dex McKibben; Alexis and Brayden Junior and Chloe Saffle; Colton, Josaline, Delilah, and Krieger Smith; Jackson and Austin Cress; and Samson McKibben.

She was reunited in heaven with her husband Don, daughter Vicki Ann, and her grandson Jason Edward McKibben.

Services for Mary will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Combest Family Memorial Chapel, Lubbock, TX.
