Mary Belle Leonard Smalley

Mary Belle Leonard Smalley of Lubbock was promoted to Glory on Friday, August 2, 2013 at the age of 92. She was born February 1, 1921 in Hickory Ridge, AR to Henry W. and Mary E. (Brown) Leonard.  Mary was the oldest of eight children having six brothers and two sisters.  Mary was a loving and hardworking person all her life.  Working as a seamstress for over 75 years, she sewed for the public and enjoyed the friendships she made.  She met and married Burrell Frank Smalley.  She was a member of Redbud Baptist Church and active in the Prime Timers Club.  Mary enjoyed playing 42, which she was very good at, and was a member of the Lubbock Women’s Bowling Association.

Those left to cherish her memory are three brothers, William Leonard of Freemont, Ohio, Marshall Leonard of Lubbock, and Jimmy Rogers Leonard and wife Lyneva of Hickory Ridge, Arkansas; sister, Joyce Young and husband Leonard of Crestview, FL; her loyal and loving companion Lacey; and caregiver and friends, Jill and Harold Thompson; as well as a host of other friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Burrell; three brothers, Norman, Wilbert and David Leonard.

Memorial services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel.
