Maria Alicia Torres peacefully went home to be with our Lord on February 17, 2025. She was deeply loved and was surrounded by her husband and family in her last moments. She was born in San Marcos, Texas on October 22nd, 1945, to the late Yasias Olvera and Epifania Castro. She grew up with her 5 loving sisters, the late Cecilia Olvera of Lubbock, Tx, Alma Ramirez of Albuquerque, NM, Nora Camargo of Sherman, TX, Janie Coy of San Marcos, TX, and Irene Camacho also of San Marcos, TX.
In 1968 she met her forever Love, Heladio Torres, while he was celebrating his 18th birthday. In his words, “that was the day she claimed him as hers.” They were happily wed into holy matrimony on July 11th, 1968, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Together they dedicated their lives serving the Lord and Inherently growing into generational parishioners. Their dedication continued to be threaded in their marriage as they both served our Heavenly Father. Maria served valiantly as a cursillista and anywhere the lord called her to be. She took honor in her duties as a Guadalupana alongside her sisters of the church. She left the lord’s inheritance for all her children and grandchildren to find.
In her 57-year marriage to her “Honny,” she became a mother to six sons and one daughter, Heladio Torres Jr, Andrew Torres Sr, Tommy Torres, Mario Torres, (Donna Marie,) Dora Alicia Rodriguez, (Jaime,) Alexander Torres, and Adam Isaac Torres all from Lubbock. Her children blessed her with 28 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and an expectant great grandchild in September of 2025. She loved flowers, gardening, sevundias, and her family. She loved life with her family always made sure anyone who entered her home was never hungry. Everyone will miss her tamales, her jokes, her picks on the big game, her hugs, her phone calls, and her unconditional love.
Mary, also known as Honny and momma and grandma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a mirror image of proverbs 31, that describes a strong wise woman who honors God by seeking Him in everything she does and trusting Him wholeheartedly with her life. There is no doubt, that Maria Alicia isn’t smiling down on us from heaven in her renewed perfect self. Mary is proceeded in death by her Mother and Father-in-law Guadalupe and Amador Torres Jr, grandchildren; Santiago Martinez, Alexander Torres Jr, Percilla Torres, Jeremiah Theadore Duck.
