Melvin Wayne Edwards (86) of Lubbock, formerly of Tahoka, went to his heavenly home January 31, 2022. He was born May 22, 1935 in Lynn County to Hubert and Willie Mae Edwards. Melvin attended school at New Lynn and Wilson Texas. Melvin had a love for many 4-H activities and received an Anderson-Clayton Cotton Scholarship. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1956 and was honorably discharged.
January 6 was the 65th anniversary of Melvin and the former Jeanell Martin. They were married at the First Methodist Church in Tahoka, Texas. They made their home in Draw Texas.
Melvin absolutely loved farming and tilling the soil. He loved going to work everyday, working with his hands, and seeing the fruits of his labor at the end of the season. He retired from farming in the early 80's. For 8 years Melvin and Jeanell operated the Hometown Hardware store in Tahoka then moved to Lubbock.
Melvin was a faithful member of Southcrest Baptist Church serving as a deacon. He was also a Master Mason for over 50 years.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Jeanell; his son, Mike of Hobbs NM (Patti Jones); grandchildren, Cody Edwards (Tawana) of Owasso, OK; Cassie Lakin (Heath) of Hobbs, NM; great-grandchildren, Madison and Audrey Edwards of Owasso, OK; and Jax Lakin of Hobbs, NM. His sister Imojean Tunnell of Amarillo and a host of much loved nieces, nephews,and friends.
Memorials may be sent to St. Jude's Hospital; Southcrest Baptist Church of Lubbock or Alzheimer's Association.
