Mike Furgeson of Idalou passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the age of 62. He was born September 7, 1951 in Lubbock to James William and Mary Evelyn (Boyd) Furgeson. Mike graduated from Idalou High School and went on to attend college. He later returned to the community and worked as a cattleman. He also was a regional order buyer for several years at L & H Pac and Caviness Pac. He was a member of the Texas Cowboy Rodeo Association and the Kansas Professional Rodeo Association where he also participated as a judge. In addition, Mike was a College National Finals participant for the Western Texas College in Snyder and an AJRA World Champion bull rider. Mike attended Center Community Church near Idalou.
Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Haley Sheppard and husband Branch of Houston and Jessica Williams and husband Kevin of Putnam, Oklahoma; brother, Eddy Furgeson and wife Cindy of Idalou; two sisters, Debbie Lewis and husband Wade of Hereford and Ann Lisemby and husband Steve of New Home; three grandchildren, Reid, Jack and Ellen Sheppard; and his special friends Rhonda Milne and James Loyd Vick, as well as his loyal dog Curly Jo.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Butch Furgeson.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the Idalou United Methodist Church with interment to follow at the Becton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Becton Cemetery Fund, c/o Ute Becton, 905 W. 8th Street, Idalou, TX 79329 or Center Community Church.
