Milton Darrell "Pete" Blassingame

Milton Darrell “Pete” Blassingame, 90, of Lubbock, passed away at home on Sunday, February 2, 2025. Pete was born in Petersburg, TX, the 7th child of Victor and Effie (Krebs) Blassingame, in September of 1934. He attended schools in Petersburg and graduated from Petersburg High School, Class of 1953. Pete had an outstanding career in high school football, playing the Quarterback position. The Avalanche Journal named him “Pistol Pete” in honor of his achievements. Texas Tech recruited him for their freshman team. Pete joined the army on December 9, 1954, and was Honorably Discharged in September of 1956.

Pete was known to be an avid reader, lover of math and world history, and enjoyed traveling. Pete was often found outside in his yard, caring for it constantly. He loved his family and his cats were his babies.

Pete was employed for over 25 years at W & W Steel Company in Lubbock, where he retired in 2005. He worked there in the Shop Superintendent role.

In 1979, Pete married the love of his life, Pam Jordan. The couple had two children, Doak and Jamie and would have been married 46 years in March. Pam and Pete had been able to travel to many different countries during their marriage and enjoyed every moment together doing so.

Pete was a man of integrity. If you knew him, you knew this. He had a very dry sense of humor and could make anyone laugh! You didn't ask Pete for his opinion if you didn't want to hear it, because he would not hesitate to tell you. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be sorely missed.

Pete is survived by his wife, Pam of Lubbock, son, Daryl Blassingame of Borger, TX, daughter, Renea Lawson of Borger, TX, son, Doak Blassingame (Sierra) of Lubbock, and daughter Jamie Blassingame of New Caney, TX, ten grandchildren, with a new granddaughter, Mercy, on the way, and 12 great-grandchildren, sister, Mary Bain of Jackson, TN, many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings, Royal, Raymond, and Victor Blassingame, Juanita Hart, Ruth Biggs and Ollie Webber.
