Nancy Lynn Porter, 68, touched the hand of her Savior and God on Tuesday, January 18th, 2022 following complications of COVID. She was born on December 29, 1953 in Odessa, Texas, the youngest daughter of Howard A. and Ruth M. (Watson) Porter. Nancy spent her younger years in Odessa, Texas. In the early 1960's her family moved back to their family homestead, established around 1890, Porter's Curve, Louisiana. The family owned and operated a country grocery store there for several decades. Nancy and her sister Karen loved working there to help out the family and got to know many people in Washington Parish. Nancy graduated from Mount Hermon High School in 1972. She would have been honored as a golden grad this May. Nancy was a true beauty and had a way of making friends with all she met. Her laughter was infectious. Shortly after graduation, Nancy joined the armed services to serve and honor her country. She later moved to Texas to begin her new passion as a beautician/barber. She developed a large clientele, making friends of them all. Her time with them allowed her to be a personal witness for Jesus Christ. After retirement, Nancy spent the next several years helping her sister care for her special needs children. She always cared for their needs and brought joy to their days.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Howard A. and Ruth Watson Porter, of Mt. Hermon; grandparents Ellis and Ethel Watson and W. E. and Nina Porter of Mt. Hermon; and brother Timothy E. Porter, formerly of Mt. Hermon. She was also pre-deceased by stepsister Onna Lee and step-brothers Dennis, James, and Jack Porter. Survivors include two sisters: Alice M. Higgins and Karen L. McCafferty both of Lubbock, Texas; nephews and nieces Stewart Wayne Porter, Stephanie Porter Fox, Amanda McGee, Spencer McGee, Tonni Jones, and Mason Jones. Nancy will be dearly missed by her sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, and cousins along with many friends who knew and loved her.
