Nathalia June Nixon, 89, entered into Glory Land on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 in Lubbock. Graveside service will be in the Iraan Cemetery in Iraan on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, W. H. “Wimpy” Nixon. Many years ago they chose this location as that is where they grew up, went to school and where so many Happy Memories all began. She and her high school sweetheart were married on January 1, 1945 in Sheffield, Texas while he was home on leave from the Navy. After his Naval discharge, he began work for Shell Pipe Line, Corp. and this involved several moves until his retirement and move to Granbury.
June was the second daughter born to Nathan W. and Gladys Baggett Shoffit in Albany, Texas on March 2, 1925. The family moved to Iraan and the West Texas Oil Boom when she was not quite five years old. She began school there and graduated in 1942 and began her first job in Ft. Stockton at the Army’s Primary Air Base. After marriage and through the years, she spasmodically worked for Gulf Oil Corp., The Atlantic Refining Co. (later AMCO) and her last job was with D. C. Well Service, Inc. in Denver City. The main goal in her life was to be a good Christian, Wimpy’s wife and Mother to her beloved son, Roger Bane. Then came the joy of being Grandma to her four grandchildren. She always felt that life was good, full of Blessings and truly worth living.
A life-long Methodist, the last several years had been in the love and fellowship of Waples United Methodist Church in Granbury. During her son’s school days she enjoyed being a Den Mother for his Cub Scout group, volunteering at the school library and served as a Pink Lady at different hospitals. Also was a long-time member of The Order of The Eastern Star.
