Neely Lee Brooks, Jr.

Neely Lee Brooks, Jr. of Tahoka passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born September 22, 1943, in Lubbock to Neely and Elsie (McKaughan) Brooks, Sr. Growing up in Tahoka, Neely attended Tahoka High School. He worked as a truck driver and farmer until retiring. On March 7, 1974, he married Donna Miller in Tahoka. Neely enjoyed watching old westerns, “tinkering”, and most importantly spending time with family. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tahoka. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife and soulmate of almost 51 years, Donna; sons, Shannon Dwayne Mitchell-Percell and Ronye Haley Mitchell-Percell, both of Dallas, and Bradley Hoyt Bailey of Kansas; brothers, Joe Taylor Brooks and Gary Alan Brooks, both of Tahoka; and two grandchildren Sarah and Nathan Bailey of Kansas. 

Neely was preceded in death by his grandparents, L. R. and Lillie (Tidwell) Brooks and J. S. and Valverde (Stevens) McKaughan, Sr.; parents, Neely and Elsie Brooks, Sr.; and brothers, Richard Mack Brooks and Ronnie Gene Brooks. 

The family will receive friends from 10:00-12:00 on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Combest Family Funeral Homes of Tahoka. Services will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with burial at Nevels Memorial Cemetery.
