Nina Kay Powers, 67, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025. She is a native Texan from the South Plains of Tahoka, Texas, near Lubbock. Nina received a B.S. in Education from Texas Tech University and worked several years as an advertising representative for the Fort Worth Woman magazine and Thrifty Nickel in Lubbock. In 1987 she moved to Austin and worked for the Austin Business Journal. In 1994, Nina graduated from Third Coast Center for the Healing Arts and began a private practice in massage therapy and bodywork. Alternative medicine, herbs, energy work, meditation, metaphysics, yoga, dance, music, contemplative prayer, crystals, stones, and nature have all been areas of influence within her life's work.
Nina enjoyed nature which included hiking, travel and wildlife. She could often be found at the farmers’ market, or enjoying music, theatre and various travel adventures.
Those left to cherish her memory are her nephews and nieces, Justin Porter and wife Lauren, Lex Frazier, Michele Claborn and husband Kevin, and Melissa Hosmer and husband Todd; as well as extended family and friends who will miss her.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Sweet Street Baptist Church in Tahoka with inurnment to follow at Nevels Memorial Park.
