Noelin Powell of Wichita Falls died on September 10, 2014, at the age of 93. He was born in Duke, Oklahoma, on February 14, 1921. Graduating from Duke High School, he farmed for many years in Jackson County, Oklahoma. He married Paulene Aday on January 1, 1941. They were happily married until her death on May 8, 2002.
In 1952 they moved from their farm in Oklahoma to Amarillo, Texas, where he worked in real estate. Noelin eventually went to work for the B. F. Goodrich Company. He managed Goodrich Stores in Oklahoma City and Chickasha, Oklahoma, Pampa, Texas, and eventually moved to manage the Lubbock store in 1958. He started his own tire business in 1961 and owned Powell and Phipps Tire Mart for many years. Before his retirement Noelin and Paulene moved to their beloved “pea patch” south of Idalou, Texas, and enjoyed their return to the farm. He moved to Wichita Falls in 2004 to live with his daughter, Paula.
He is survived by two sisters, Wynell Lankford of Altus, Oklahoma, and Barbara McKinley of Quanah, Texas. He leaves behind two daughters, Paula Hill of Wichita Falls and Deborah Wiggins and her husband Gary of Lubbock. He had two grandchildren, Dustin Hill of Wichita Falls and Lara Johnson of Lubbock. Lara and her husband Michael are the parents of his two great grandchildren, Keegan and Gwendolyn.
He was a loving husband and father and lived his life with honesty and generosity. He was a 32nd degree Freemason. His family and friends appreciated his wise counsel and humor. He will be missed.
