Noemi Annie Mecalco

May 12, 1939 — January 7, 2023

Lubbock

Noemi Honesto Mecalco, 83, of Lubbock, TX passed into her eternal life on January 7, 2023.  She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in loving prayer.  She was born on May 12, 1939 in Pandora, TX to Bernaldino and Tomasa Honesto.  Though she grew up in a humble home she used her blessings to bless others.  She married Jose De La Luz Mecalco Sr. on July 25, 1959 in Tahoka, TX.  They would later renew their wedding vows on their 25th anniversary at Saint Pius X Catholic Church in O’Donnell, TX.  She was a homemaker and performed clerical duties where she assisted her husband with his welding business.  Her children lovingly remember her tirelessly working to make something great out of her small resources.  Every Easter she would sew an Easter dress for each of her 7 daughters, at times it was without the use of a pattern.  Her sewing talent was also utilized in sewing numerous costumes for Christmas plays.  Even at the last minute she was clutch.  She sold Avon for many years and was successful in earning her $1000 pin in record time.  She moved to Lubbock, TX in 1995 and began working as a custodian at TX Tech University.  She would later retire due to health reasons.  As a woman of deep faith, she served as a Guadalupana at Saint Pius X Catholic church in O’Donnell, TX.  She was a Jornalista and carried her cross bravely.  She passed that faith down to her children and grandchildren.  One of her last joys was seeing her grandson Ezra get married in the Catholic faith.  She gave of herself freely.  She would take in anyone needing a place to stay.  No one ever left her house hungry.  She has left a legacy that will be hard to replace.  She has left this world, but the world is better for her having been in it.

She is preceded in death by her parents Bernaldino and Tomasa Honesto.  Her husband Jose De La Luz Mecalco Sr.  A son Christopher Mecalco, a daughter Lydia Mecalco – Freeman, another son Samuel John Arce.  Her brother Pablo Honesto.  Two grandchildren Matthew Isaiah Mecalco-Freeman and Nicholas Arce.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children Leopoldo Mecalco, Minerva Mecalco and Bernaldino Mecalco of Lubbock, Esmeralda (Eliseo) Salazar of Morton.  Norma Mecalco of O’Donnell.  Jose De La Luz Mecalco Jr (Stela), Maricruz Mecalco Valenzuela (Adam), Michelle Mecalco, Graciela Mendoza (Rene) all from Lubbock.  Joshua Mark Mecalco Sr. (Crystal) of New Deal TX.  A beloved son in law, Edward Freeman.  A daughter in law Deborah Mecalco.  35 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
