Norberto "Rob" Ramos

Norberto “Rob” Ramos, 55, of Lubbock, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday morning, March 29, 2024.  Rob was born on April 29, 1968, in Lamesa, Dawson County, Texas, to the late Pablo A. Ramos and Ramona (Baltazar) Ramos.

Rob grew up in Lamesa, attending Lamesa schools and graduating from Lamesa High School in 1986.  He attended South Plains College, getting his Associates Degree in Education in 1994.   He then attended Lubbock Christian University and obtained his Bachelors Degree in Higher Education in 1998, before going to Texas Tech University where he obtained his Masters Degree in Higher Education in 2000.  The main reason for his going this far in education was at the inspiration of his mother.

Rob taught Spanish at Estacado High School, as well as English and Spanish at Frenship.  He taught Spanish in the Applied Linguistics Department at Texas Tech University from 2004 to 2006.  He then became an Assistant Professor in the Foreign Language Department at South Plains College in 2006 and elevated himself to the title of Professor of the Foreign Language Department until 2023, at which time he retired.

In between and during his educational years, he taught at South Plains College from 1991 to 1994 and at LCU from 1994 to 1996 in the Applied Linguistics Departments.   While at South Plains College, he organized their Student Ministry.  He also volunteered to go to Haiti where he helped teach students there.

Rob loved to read, travel, dance, entertain and host some of the best parties around.  He also did floral arrangements for the holidays and enjoyed decorating for them as well as for his friends.  He loved to spend time with his two boys (fur babies), Tiffany and Toby, the Shih Tzu’s.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include two brothers:  John Ramos and his wife Jaqueline of Ft. Worth and Guadalupe Ramos and his wife Amy of Lamesa; three sisters:  Teresa Morales and her husband Andrew of Lamesa, Irma Sorola of Lamesa, and Sylvia Ramos and her husband David of Lubbock; his favorite niece, Marcie Ramos; his best friend, Melissa Serrato; 11 nieces and nephews, 18 great nieces and nephews, and 4 great-great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation for Rob will be held from 12 Noon to 8 PM on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, in the Venue on Broadway of Combest Family Funeral Home, 2202 Broadway, Lubbock, TX.  Recitation of the Rosary will be recited at 6 PM that evening.  Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1120 52nd Street in Lubbock.  Father Martin Pina will be the Celebrant.   Final rites and interment will follow in the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
