Norman D. Clayton, 80, of Lubbock passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 in Lubbock.
Norman was born on June 23, 1942 in Amherst, Texas to Freddie D. Clayton and Emily Hawkins Clayton. He was raised in Earth, Texas and graduated from Springlake-Earth High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Abilene Christian College in 1964. During his early years he farmed in the Earth area. He later moved to Lubbock to attend the Sunset School of Preaching (SSOP – now known as the Sunset International Bible Institute). He married Virginia “Ginger” Louise Coffman Browne on July 8, 1983 in Lubbock. After graduation from the SSOP, he worked in the grocery business, eventually retiring in 2003 as a Front-End Manager at Albertsons.
In his retirement years, he owned and operated Norman Clayton’s Guide Services at Lake Alan Henry where he enjoyed sharing his love of fishing with his friends and clients. When he wasn’t fishing, he could be found reading his Bible or a good western novel. He also enjoyed a game of cribbage. He was a faithful member of Sunset Church of Christ, where he also served as a deacon. Norman loved people and that was evidenced by the many acts of service he performed for others.
Norman is survived by his wife, Ginger Clayton of Lubbock; 4 children, Cindy Clayton of Amarillo, Sandy Clayton and partner, Marcia Ferguson, of Kress, Karen Clayton and partner, Craig Klepper, of Kress, and Scott Browne and wife, Dana, of Carrollton; brother, Boyd Clayton and wife, Darla, of Lubbock; 3 grandchildren, Cody Clayton, Dusty Clayton, and Cade Passig; one great-grandchild; and very special family friends, Levi and Sara Sisemore and their children, Jeremiah and Benjamin, of Fredericksburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Wanda Lowery and Bonnie Davis.
Visitation will be 3 – 8 PM on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway in Lubbock, and the family will receive friends from 5 – 7 PM. Celebration of life services will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Sunset Church of Christ, 3723 34th Street, in Lubbock. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock. Arrangements are under the personal care of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory in Lubbock.
