Patricia Anne Bunyard

Patricia Anne Kitchens Bunyard, beloved wife, and mother, passed away peacefully in Lubbock, Texas on January 5th, 2023, after a battle with cancer.

Patricia was born December 24, 1937, in San Angelo Texas, the only child of Ray and Peggy Kitchens. She grew up in her father’s ranching community and had many adventures traveling throughout West Texas visiting family. Patricia married Michael Bunyard in 1957 and moved to Lubbock Texas in 1960 while her husband attended Texas Tech University. After his graduation, they spent a brief time in Amarillo then moved to Dallas.  In 1977, she and her family returned to Lubbock, where she enrolled at Texas Tech University. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics – Clothing and Textiles and graduated Magna Cum Laude.  Patricia opened her own fashion design studio after graduation, which she operated for many years. In the 1980s and 1990s, she and her husband lived in Texas and Colorado. Pat and Mike moved to her ranch in Texas where they built a house and enjoyed a golden time in their lives with each other in the country. Ultimately, they returned to Lubbock again in 2000 where they lived until her passing.

Patricia was a uniquely creative and talented artist. Her artistry extended across the spectrum including music, sewing, embroidery, clothing design, photography, painting, drawing, cooking and pottery.  She saw the world in a unique way, which she captured through her various artistic mediums. She loved to travel with her husband and shared an interest with him in trains. She was also an avid reader.  Patricia participated extensively in her community as a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor society and served in various capacities for Home Economics Groups in Texas and Colorado, most notably compiling and publishing monthly newsletters. Patricia was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lubbock.

Patricia is survived by her husband of 65 years, Michael Lee Bunyard; daughter Cindy Anne Beesley of Carlisle, PA; Daughter Lee Anne Cole of Georgetown, TX; and Son Stephen Glenn Bunyard of Phoenix, AZ. She was blessed with seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents.

Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, January 20, 2023, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel.  Elizabeth Abraham, Chaplain with Hospice of Lubbock, will be the officiant.  Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
