Lubbock

Paul Richard Scott, 76, of Lubbock, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024. He was born on September 8, 1948, in Minot, North Dakota, to Cyril and Carol (Light) Scott. The family moved several times during Paul’s early years, finally settling in Helena, Montana, when Paul was 10.

Tragedy struck when Paul’s mother passed away when he was just 14 years old. Subsequently, Paul moved to Glasgow, Montana, where Melford Arrotta, a foreman at a local ranch, took Paul in and raised him for the next four years.

In 1967, at age 18, Paul enlisted in the United States Army. He served as a Nuclear Arms Specialist in Germany during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1970. After returning home to Helena, Paul used his GI Bill to complete a training program through Aetna Finance, a career path that ultimately brought him to Lubbock, Texas, where he made his home.

Paul spent many years in the automotive industry, earning numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including an appointment by the Governor of Texas to an advisory committee with the Department of Motor Vehicles. His peers and the industry recognized his dedication and leadership, and he retired as President of Fiesta Companies in 2024. His professional success was a testament to his hard work, integrity, and commitment to excellence. In addition to his career, Paul had a deep love for fly fishing, reading, and traveling—activities that brought him joy and allowed him to connect with nature and the world around him.

On August 10, 2006, Paul married MaryAnn, and together, they enjoyed a fulfilling life with their blended family. He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn, and their children: Carol Kent (husband James), Jason Fellers (wife Kameron), and Lacye Kalivoda (husband Brad), all of Lubbock. Paul was also a proud grandfather to Mollie and Henley Fellers, and Maddox, Paxton, Harper, and Barrett Kalivoda. He is further survived by his brothers, Terry Scott, David Scott, Mike Scott, and Bruce Scott.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his stepson, Brandon Adams; his sister-in-law, Laurie Scott; and his remarkable father figure, Melford Arrotta, who passed away in 2023.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, Lubbock, TX. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Backyard Missions, 8205 Quincy Ave, Lubbock, TX 79424 or by visiting their website at www.backyardmission.org
