Paula O'Donnell Thompson

February 24, 1963 — November 7, 2024

Lubbock

Paula Thompson’s unbridled laugh and radiant smile were unforgettable, drawing friends near and making each feel like her favorite. With a perfect mix of flair, warmth, wit, and light, she created bonds that felt exclusive and lasting. Paula filled every space with joy and color, leaving an undeniable sense of her presence. True to her style, she left us with an “Irish Goodbye” on November 7, 2024—slipping away quietly, with no fuss, yet leaving an unforgettable mark.

Born on February 24, 1963, in Pharr, Texas, to Anne (McCann) and Kevin O’Donnell, Paula and her family moved to Lubbock in 1971. She attended Christ the King Cathedral School through 10th grade and graduated from Coronado High School in 1981. Paula held three degrees from Texas Tech University: a B.A. in Psychology, a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies, and an M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration.

While earning her degrees, she spent 17 years working in Student Housing at Texas Tech, helping students feel at home. Later, she transitioned to her true calling in real estate, where she spent 18 years at Keller Williams Realty in Lubbock. Her dedication, expertise, and kindness made her an exceptional realtor, earning her the “Best of the West” title multiple years in a row.

Paula was a champion for women’s and LGBTQ+ rights, an avid gardener, a fabulous cook, and had a fashion sense she wore as effortlessly as her radiant smile. She volunteered with Lubbock Meals on Wheels, Ronald McDonald House, and Women’s Protective Services. True to her generous spirit, Paula never arrived empty-handed and always made sure everyone left with a plate.

She leaves behind her parents, Anne and Kevin; her brothers, David and wife Tisa and Brian; her nephew, Brandon; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A mass to honor and celebrate Paula’s vibrant life will be held at a later date. Paula’s laughter, kindness, and boundless generosity will live on in the hearts of everyone lucky enough to have known her.
