Raymond John Lowerison

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond John Lowerison, a dedicated Navy Veteran who bravely served during the Korean War. Born on June 7, 1938, in San Diego, CA, Ray peacefully departed from this world on May 22, 2024, in Lubbock, TX.  We know the reunion with his wife JoAnne and all of those who left before him was glorious!

 Ray was born in San Diego, CA to Alfred Stuart Lowerison and Annie Lowerison (Wakefield). Ray married JoAnne Lowerison on December 17th, 1970.

Ray was a talented carpenter in the residential construction industry. His craftsmanship and dedication to his trade made a lasting impact on those around him. He loved to create things, he made wind chimes and yard decorations that he called whirlygigs, he was always in his garage tinkering.   

Beyond his love for building things Ray was also a foster parent.  He and JoAnne opened their hearts and home to 392 children over 25 years. Out of those children, there was one who climbed into their hearts and they just couldn't let go, so in 2009 they adopted Karina.  She made them both young again and brought them so much joy.

Ray had a love of life, he was a go getter and always on the move.  His daily routine would consist of going to the senior center and playing pool with all of his friends, then going to Covenant Lifestyles Center and swimming, then his almost daily trips to Costco.  He was never still.

He also loved the holidays!   The outside was of his homes were always decorated for every holiday, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all who entered. His house and yard were always adorned with decorations, and he relished in the joy of having all of the children assist him in bringing his creative visions to life. Furthermore, Ray had a passion for gardening, which was evidenced by the flourishing gardens he cultivated in California.

In 2012, Ray embraced a new chapter in his life when he became a proud Texan, fully immersing himself in the vibrant culture and community of his adopted state. His love for Texas only grew stronger over the years.

He is survived by Cindy Silfee of Pueblo, Co (Daughter), Kerrie Hemphill of Reno, NY (Daughter), Tracy Burdett and Husband Justin Burdett of Lubbock, TX ( Daughter), Doreen Joan Tijerria (Sister) Ruth Constance Lavender (Sister), Garnett Lindy Lowerison ( Brother). 14 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

 He was preceded in death by JoAnne Lowerison (Spouse), Annie Lowerison (Mother), Alfred Lowerison (Father), Glenn Rasco (Son), Courtland Wakefield Lowerison (Brother), Stuart Alfred Lowerison (Brother) Kathleen Elaine Kest (Sister).

As we honor his memory and celebrate his life, a Memorial Service will be hosted by the family at Wolfforth Church of Christ on May 29, 2024, at 11:00 am. The location for the service is set at 715 5th St, Wolfforth, TX 79382.
