Richard Edward Cook of Idalou passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the age of 54. He was born December 31, 1959 in Lamesa, California. Richard worked as a fleet mechanic for Coca Cola for 17 years, then UPS for the last 11 years. He was very active in the community where he coached Idalou Little League T-Ball, Lubbock County Archery, and Robotic teams. He was the Club Manager for the Wildcat 4H Club and a member of the South Plains Archery Club. Richard married Sharman Stephens on March 30, 1996 in Lubbock. He enjoyed spending time with the young people in the community and had a strong love for his family, children, and friends. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharman; children, John Cook and Madyson Cook, both of Idalou, and Ben Cook and wife Selena; mother, Pearl Marsella; mother-in-law, Carolyne Stephens; siblings, Ron Cook and wife Karen, Sheryl Cook, Kandie Ritchie, and Marty Tiedeman and husband Tom; grandson, Ian Cook; nieces and nephews, Sarah Cleavinger and fiancé Brady Buxkemper, Shelby King and husband Jared, Carson Cleavinger, Alisha Cooper and husband Jason, and Brian Garmer; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Richard was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Ron and Louise Cook; step-father, Frank Marsella; and father-in-law, Gayland Stephens. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Idalou with the family receiving friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Idalou United Methodist Church with interment to follow at the Idalou Cemetery.
