Richard Hernandez

Richard Lee Hernandez, 76, of Lubbock, passed away from his earthly home on Sunday, December 18, 2022. He was born on September 18, 1946, to Luis and Lucille (Clay) Hernandez in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He was fond of his upbringing in Farmington, New Mexico. On August 15, 1968, he married the love of his life Irma Garcia, in Burley, Idaho. Richard worked for over 25 years as a truck driver before becoming a groundskeeper for Covenant Medical center in Lubbock. He is a member of the Christian faith.

Richard had a passion for music. He enjoyed singing, performing, and playing several musical instruments. Richard also found fulfillment in attending cultural community events and travelling the country. He will best be remembered by the continual love he had for his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Irma Hernandez; children, Troy (Amanda) Hernandez, Anna Hernandez, Susan (Rudy) Rodriguez, and Richard Anthony Hernandez; sister, Elsie Salib; grandchildren, Christopher Hernandez, Brittany Leon, Samantha Ochoa, Andrea Moreno, Megan Saenz, Eric Garcia, Emily Hernandez, Veronica Garcia, Joshua Hernandez, Nathaniel Hernandez, Victoria Rodriguez, Peter Hernandez, Rudy Rodriguez II, Alex Hernandez, Desiree Rodriguez, Jeremiah Hernandez, and Rainn Rodriguez; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Luis and Lucille Hernandez, and siblings, Esther Martinez, Jenny Hernandez, Fay Friend, Amelia Davis, Ruth Lucero, Lucille Graham, Patsy Salib, Catheline Shelly, Charlie Hernandez, and Luis Hernandez.

A visitation will be held at the Venue on Broadway on Thursday, December 29, 2022, from 1:00pm to 8:00pm. A celebration of life service will be held the following day, on December 30 at 11:00am with a lunch reception to follow.
