Rita Lara Ybarra

Rita Lara Ybarra of Petersburg passed away on Friday, August 16, 2013 at the age of 70.  She was born April 1, 1943 to Jessie and Carmen (Leija) Lara.  Rita married Alfredo Ybarra on August 27, 1961 in Petersburg.  They were members of Sacred heart Catholic Church and she was active as a Guadalupana.  Rita enjoyed Tejano music, spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and never met a stranger.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of more than 50 years, Alfredo; two sons, Juan Jesus of Petersburg and Alfredo, Jr. and wife Patricia of Bentonville, Arkansas; three daughters, Erminia Ybarra of Petersburg, Isabel “Nelly” Ybarra and partner Tony Hernandez of Olton, and Maria Anna Griffin and husband Russell of Williamsburg, Virginia; two brothers, Antonio and John Lara, both of Lubbock; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Joe Lara.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel in Lubbock with rosary cited at 6:00 p.m.   Mass is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Petersburg with interment to follow at the Petersburg Cemetery.
