Robert James Henderson, a resident of Lubbock for the past six years (most recently at Raider Ranch where he met so many wonderful new friends), passed away on Father’s Day – June 15, 2014. Bob was born October 5, 1926 in Batavia, New York, to Loretta B. and Kenneth A. Henderson. After service in the Army during World War II, he attended Niagara University where he earned his BA in Business. On February 18, 1950 he married the love of his life and amazing mother of his children, Carol CeceliaCampney. Together, Bob and Carol raised fifteen children all over the United States.
For over forty years Bob proudly serviced as General Manager at Country Clubs in LeRoy, NY, Greenville, SC, and Fort Worth, TX. His longest periods of service were at Old Warson CC in St. Louis, MO and Belle Meade CC in Nashville, TN.
Robert is survived by eleven of his fifteen children, daughters: AnneMarie, Patricia, Maura, Loretta, and Martha; and sons: Thomas, Joseph, Kenneth, Peter, John (Jay), and Michael; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Over his many years Robert “Coach” Henderson was a spiritual man who enjoyed participating in sporting activities with his children. He was an avid golfer, a lover of fine foods(and even finer service) and he was always an active member in his beloved Catholic Church. He spent his last years in much prayerful contemplation, and now joins his “Sweet Carol”, sons Matthew, Timothy, Andrew, and Robert Jr., his parents, brother and sister, where together they have no doubt already begun a game of “Pitch” – “That will be ten cents, please!”.
There will be a Rosary at Christ the King Cathedral (56th and Nashville in Lubbock) at 7:00 pm on Friday June 27th. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at the Cathedral on Saturday, June 28th, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any Catholic charity of your choice.
