Roberto R. Barrera of Lubbock passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the age of 85. He was born February 1, 1928 in Karnes City, Texas to Santiago and Rita (Rios) Barrera. Roberto and his wife Genoveva moved to the West Texas area in 1956 and began farming until he retired in the 1980’s. He has a passion for gardening and enjoyed playing Bingo. Roberto had a knack for finding hidden treasures and making money on scratch off tickets. He will best be remembered for the great love he showed towards his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are three sons, Roberto Z. Barrera and wife Lisa of Shallowater, Jose Luis Barrera and Rick Barrera and wife Isabel, all of Lubbock; three daughters, Maria Montes and husband Gilbert, Toni Barrera, and Susan Moreno and husband Carlos, all of Lubbock; one brother, Ramon of El Campo; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Roberto was preceded in death by his wife, Genoveva, on January 29, 2012; one daughter, Mary Lou Robles; and one son, Daniel Z. Barrera.
Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Our Lady of Grace with burial to follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bobby Barrera, Isaiah Barrera, Marcus Moreno, Daniel Moreno, Thomas Gutierrez, and Ondraus Moreno.
