Rosa (Guillen) Martinez of Lubbock passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at the age of 101. She was born September 9, 1921 in Selma, Texas. Rosa was a strong, hardworking woman who raised seven children alone. She has been a 50-year member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served as a Guadalupana. Rosa was faithful in reciting the rosary. Among her many hobbies and interests, she enjoyed bingo, gardening her roses, reading the horoscope, and most notably cooking for her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Richard (Dominga) Martinez, Mary Gonzales, Antonia Ayala, Janie (Joe) Gomez, Alma Olivarez, and Jessie (Lilly) Rodriguez; 31 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 24, great-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sylvia Atkinson; son-in-law, Guadalupe Gonzales; two grandchildren, Hector Cerda and Christina Atkinson; and great-great-grandchildren, Josiah and Jazalyn Silva.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Venue on Broadway with rosary being cited at 5:00p.m. Mass is at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Lopez presiding. Burial to follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
