Rufus Velgara Sr.

Rufus “Cuco” Velgara, 78, was born April 6, 1946 and left to be with the Lord on, February 3, 2025 peacefully at his home.

Rufus Velgara was born in Lubbock, TX where he met Annie Gonzales. Together they shared a daughter Olivia, 2 sons Rufus (Jay) and Jose (Eric), and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Rufus was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to everyone and touched many people’s hearts.

Rufus was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. He enjoyed working on cars, fishing, listening to music and spending time with his grandkids. You would rarely see him without his shades and leather vest on. Rufus was always keeping himself busy and willing to help others out during his free time. He was slowly forced to give up what he loved to do due to health.

A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 3:00PM -8:00PM at Combest Funeral Home on Tuesday, with the Holy Rosary being recited at 6:00PM.

A funeral service for Rufus will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 10:00AM, at St. Jospeh Catholic Church. Rufus will be laid to rest immediately following at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
