Ruthie Jean Fields of Lubbock passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the age of 80. She was born January 28, 1934 in Liberal, Kansas to Leroy and Nellie (Carlisle) Craig. Ruthie graduated from high school in Oklahoma and in 1951 married Jack Fields, Sr. The couple moved to Lubbock in 1960 where she worked as a waitress at the Lubbock Inn until retiring in 2000. She was a member of the First Christian Church and active in the AA Community.
Those left to cherish her memory are four sons, Jack Fields, Mike Fields and wife Linda, Jim Fields and wife Kelly and Greg Fields and wife Ellen; four daughters, Dink Higginbotham, Donna Rinehart, Rose Donaldson and husband Barry, and Margaret Reble and husband Mark; one brother, Fred Craig; two sisters, Neva Day and Avis Norton; 18 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; her yardman, Bill Baldwin; sons, Dickie Fields and wife Becky and Buster Fields; and grandson, William Fields.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Combest Family Funeral Homes with the family receiving friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2014 at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Lubbock Children’s Home, PO Box 2824, Lubbock TX 79408.
