Sam Truelock went to be with the Lord after a hard-fought battle with illness on May 27, 2024. Born on January 14, 1952, to Fred and Frances (Paschall) Truelock, he graduated from Shallowater High School in 1970. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas Tech University. He married the love of his life Karinne (who he called “The Boss” with a huge grin) on September 20, 1975, after being introduced by Herschell and Billie Pigg (owners of a jewelry store). He joined the Army in January 1976, and traveled the world. His two favorite stations were Helmstedt, Germany, and Camp Zama Japan, where he was Provost Marshall for the base.
After retiring from the Army in 1992, Sam made his home with Karinne and his daughters (Heather and Holly) back in Lubbock where he worked in the corrections field in many different capacities including as Facility Director for the Roswell New Mexico Jail. Sam very much loved his wife and daughters. He would do anything for Karinne, including changing the TV channel and the dishes. He shared a keen interest in archeology and history with Heather, and psychology and sociology with Holly, enjoying many loooooong conversations with both daughters about anything and everything. Sam loved to talk and rarely met a stranger, being constantly on the lookout for those he deemed “good people”. He was always up for watching Time Team or British soccer (particularly Manchester City or Liverpool). He also loved puns, especially the bad ones, although he would roll his eyes and groan about them. He enjoyed the company of his two canine companions Waylon and Willie, and secretly enjoyed the cats, too. He attended St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Karinne, daughters Heather and Holly, brother Steve, brothers-in-law John and Les, sister-in law Becky, and family friend Camillia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Frances Truelock, parents-in-law Homer and Yvonne Morrow, and brothers-in-law Jay Morrow and Scotty Morrow. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses with the Cardiac ICU and UMC for their kind and gentle care of both Sam and his family.
Services will be held at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church 2807 42nd St, Lubbock, TX on June 5th, 2024, at 2 p.m., with Rachel Petty Rector, officiating.
