Tennie Sue Burgess, 93, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 24, 2025. Tennie was born on May 10, 1931, in Weches, Houston County, Texas, to the late John Sample Click and Allie Mae (Mosley) Click.
She attended Brownfield High School and graduated with the senior class of 1949.
Tennie met the love of her life, L. D. Burgess, and they were united in marriage on February 25, 1955, in Lovington, New Mexico. Mr. Burgess preceded her in death on August 12, 2010.
Tennie worked as the secretary to the Hale County Justice of Peace for over 20 years, before retiring in 1996. She loved to garden and work in her yard. She had a green thumb and grew flowers of all kinds. Tennie loved to cook and make good old country food. She even took a cake decorating class and loved to make and decorate cakes. She loved Blue Grass Gospel music and her church. She has been a member of Primitive Baptist Church in Lubbock for many years.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her four daughters: Susan Oliver, Beverly Burgess, Rhonda (Marc) Greco and Donna Burgess, all of Lubbock; four grandchildren: Aidan Burgess, Scarlett Burgess, Patience Jones and Tegan Jones; and extended family members, John and Buffy Bayer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers: Roy Click, Bill Click and Arlon Click; two sisters: Gladys Boroughs and Evelyn Click; one grandson, Tom Burgess.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 PM on Thursday, February 27, 2025, in the City of Levelland Cemetery, in Levelland, Texas. Kenny Venable, of Primitive Baptist Church in Lubbock, will be the officiant. Services are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.
