Troy Sam Layman, 76, of Lubbock passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021. He was born December 7, 1944 in Littlefield to Donald and Mamie (Vaughn) Layman. Troy married Shirley Whitaker on April 22, 1988 in Lubbock. He worked for Thrifty Nickel newspaper for 25 years as the sales manager and later worked for Gene Messer for the past 9 years. Troy was a person who could fix anything with his hands and loved working. He enjoyed hiking, watching movies, riding motorcycles and watching NASCAR. Troy was also a sports fan, especially for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Dallas Cowboys and later the Kansas City Chiefs and the Arizona Cardinals. Most importantly, Troy loved all of his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a very caring person when it came to family, friends and animals.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years, Shirley; daughters, Lory Layman Hobbs, Holly Layman Van Willer and Angela Omadhebor; sons, Clay Winters and Wade Winters; brother Don Layman, 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mamie Layman, and his brothers, Truman Layman and Gary Layman.
