Deacon Urbano Rodriguez of Idalou passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the age of 99. He was born on May 13, 1914 in McAllen, Texas to Urbano and Maria Rodriguez. Urbano married Juana Velazquez on April 10, 1935 in Edinburg. He served his country in World War II in the U. S. Army. After honorable discharge, he farmed locally for 32 years in Heckville until he retired at the age of 64. Urbano was a member of St. Philips Catholic Church in Idalou since 1970 where he served as a church deacon since 1981.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Israel Rodriguez and wife Pat of Temple, GA; son-in-law, David Ortis; brother, Raul Rodriguez; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Urbano was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juana in 2007; three daughters, Maria Ester Allred, Virginia Ortis, and Alicia Rodriguez; four brothers; and three sisters.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Idalou. A vigil will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. at San Lorenzo Catholic Church in Lorenzo. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2014, visitation will begin at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Idalou with rosary being held at 6:30 p.m. at St. Philips Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014 at St. Philips Catholic Church with Bishop Placido Rodriguez, CMF officiating. Interment will follow at Idalou Cemetery.
