Valerie Gail Perkins, 63, of Hobbs, New Mexico, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022. She was born in Lubbock, Texas on July 10, 1959, to Roy Kirkland and the late Betty (Lackey) Kirkland.
She attended Cotton Center High School, graduating in 1977. Furthering her education, she completed under-graduate studies at Wayland Baptist in 1981 and went on to receive her Masters Degree in Science at East Texas A & M in 1983. She taught at Cotton Center High School for 12 years and at Wilson High School for 14 years, before retiring in 2018. She loved quilting, scrap booking, devotional studies and had a passion for educating young people. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cotton Center.
Those left to cherish her memory include her child, Mx. Lorien Perkins of North Hollywood, Florida; two brothers, Jeff Kirkland and his wife Tammy of Littlefield and Glenn Kirkland and his wife Shanna of Cotton Center; her father, Roy Kirkland of Cotton Center.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, September 5, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Cotton Center. Pastor Terry Simmons of the First Baptist Church in Cotton Center will be the officiant. Inurnment will be at 2 PM on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, in the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations, in Valerie’s memory, to the Science Spectrum, 2579 S. Loop 289, Suite 250, Lubbock, Texas 79423.
