Vernon Leon Burton, 84, of O’Donnell, passed away on Friday afternoon, April 28, 2023. Vernon was born on January 2, 1939, in Rule, Haskell County, Texas, to the late Alton Burton and Leola Marie (Vernon) Burton.
He grew up in the Knox City area and attended school there.
Vernon met the love of his life, Loretta Haney, and they were united in marriage on January 2, 1956, in Muleshoe, Texas. Vernon retired from the City of Levelland as their Street Superintendent after many years. He loved to collect John Deere tractors and knives and was very fond of his grandkids and was very family oriented. He was a member of Richland Hills Baptist Church.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Loretta Burton of Lubbock; two sons, Scott Burton of O’Donnell and Randy Burton of Levelland; one brother, Alton Burton of Muleshoe; five grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death four brothers, R. W. Burton, Marvin Burton, Edward Burton and Earl Burton; two sisters, Dorothy Johnson and Velma Burton.
Visitation for Mr. Burton will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the Lubbock location of Combest Family Funeral Home – Oak Crest Suite, 2210 Broadway, Lubbock, TX 79401. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, May 4, 2023, in the Lazbuddie Cemetery in Lazbuddie, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Chris Altman, Jaiden Chavera, Scott Burton, Randy Burton, Devonte Burton, Dustin Burton, Chris Burton and Kylor James.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Levelland Volunteer Fire Department.
