Veronica “Monroe” Gonzalez, 81, of Lubbock, and a member of the Oglala Sioux Indian Tribe, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024. She was born on September 12, 1943, in Alliance, Nebraska.
She met the love of her life, Fernando Rincon Gonzalez, and they were married in Texas. Mr. Gonzalez preceded her in death in 1973.
She worked many jobs, but lastly as a machinist for a cotton gin in Lubbock, before retiring in 2014. She loved to watch ghost shows, movies, her grandkids, travel, doing crossword puzzles and cooking Mexican food. She was known for her fried burritos. She was a long-time member of the Providence Presbyterian Church in Lubbock.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include two daughters: Felina Gonzalez and Frances Gonzalez, both of Lubbock; three sons: Fernando Gonzalez, Faron Gonzalez and Fernando Roy Gonzalez, all of Lubbock; two brother's: Robert Monroe of Lodi, California and Marty Monroe of Moapa, Nevada; one sister, Mary Venegas of Sacramento, California; nineteen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one daughter, Felicia Casarez.
A visitation for Mrs. Gonzalez will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 5 PM to 7 PM in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel, 2210 Broadway. Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Providence Presbyterian Church, 3301 34th Street, Lubbock, TX 79410. Pastor Ronnie Rowe will be the officiant. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home and Crematories.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Gonzalez be made to the Providence Presbyterian Church, 3301 34th Street, Lubbock, TX 79410.
