William Joseph Thiel

A funeral service for William “Billy” Thiel is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 11:00AM, at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Lubbock, with Pastor Joel Perez officiating. The family will receive friends and family for a time of visitation on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, from 4:30PM to 7:00PM, with a Holy Rosary recited by Aileen Everett beginning at 6:00PM. All services are under the direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes. 
 

Billy was born on April 18, 1962, in Lubbock, TX to Kenneth and Janet (Puetz) Thiel, and passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, in Lubbock, TX. Billy was a loving and devoted husband and father. He grew up in New Deal and graduated in 1980. Billy started early working on the farm with his brothers and dad, KF Thiel and Sons, growing onions and cabbage. He was fortunate to grow up just down the road from his future wife, Lynn. In 1989, Billy and Lynn married and started their family shortly after. They raised their family on the farm, where he continued to work the land and grow different crops. He loved traveling with his family to the mountains to ski, going on cruises, or taking trips to Lake Brownwood. Billy loved his son, Evan, making him cheese pizza with macaroni and cheese, and teaching him the same love of the land with a garden. He often picked up Bailey, he affectionately named her Boo, to get a blueberry muffin and a coke to ‘go farming’. Billy would do almost anything at the drop of a hat for his family and his dogs. He loved making people laugh, telling stories, and farming. He loved and was loved.  

Billy was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Thiel; and his brother, Kenny Boy Thiel. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lynn Thiel; children, Evan and Bailey Thiel; mother, Janet (Puetz) Thiel; sisters, Mary Kay Cope and husband Luke, and Michelle Thiel; brothers, Chuck Thiel and wife Ramona, Jim Thiel and wife Kim, Tom Thiel and wife Kimberly; mother-in-law, Donna Moore; brother-in-law, Rodney Moore; sister-in-law, Suz-Ann Kirby and husband Stan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
