It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Wynona Evelyn (Dixon) Berkley, age 89, of Lubbock, Texas, on September 22, 2024.
Wynona was born February 24, 1935, in her family home on top of Old Crow Mountain, Poke County, Arkansas to Lee and Mabel (Bradford) Dixon, they moved to Texas when she was six months old.
Wynona married her loving husband Bobby Joplin in 1952. Through this union they had three beautiful sons, Anthony Joplin, Barry Joplin, and Marty Joplin. Wynona helped maintain the family home and farm outside of Slaton, Texas alongside her husband and sons. Bobby passed away in Slaton in 1974.
In 1985 she married Floyd “Papaw” Coates and moved to Farwell, Texas. They enjoyed travelling and summers with their grandchildren until his untimely passing in 2002.
In 2006 she married Bob Berkley until he passed away in 2020.
Wynona had a very fulfilled life; she loved all sports, especially football being a diehard Dallas Cowboys and Texas Tech, Red Raiders fan. She was a talented and accomplished artist who completed multiple oil canvas paintings that the family will cherish for years to come, along with scrapbooking, photography, and doll collecting. Her favorite doll being her Betsy that she travelled everywhere with.
Wynona was preceded in death by her parents Mabel and Lee Dixon, her sister Margaret Scott, brothers, Edmond Dixon, Carl Dixon, Kenneth Dixon, Her sons Anthony Joplin, Barry Joplin, and Marty Joplin, as well as her granddaughter Ashley Joplin-Ussery.
Wynona is survived by her grandchildren, Wes Joplin and wife Say of Spur, Texas, Dusty Joplin and wife Robyn of Levelland, Texas, Jenna Joplin Phillips and husband Justin of Dumas, Texas, Stormy Joplin and wife Lyndie of Lubbock, Charlie and wife Caroline Langdon of Lubbock, Jacqueline and husband Ryan Clark of Lubbock, Tawney Cullison and husband Tyler of Lubbock and Chris Langdon of Fort Worth; great grandchildren Makayla Joplin and fiancée Adrian, Britany Joplin, Samantha Joplin, Savannah Joplin, Jordan Joplin, Dixon Ussery, Everley Phillips, Brecken Phillips, Layton Phillips, Scarlett Langdon, Adalynne Cullison, Everleigh Cullison, Kaydence Cullison and Marty Haze Joplin; great-great grandchildren, Kavyn and Liam; daughters-in-law, Sara Joplin of Lubbock and Mitzi Joplin of Dickens, Texas; sisters, Wanda Cannon of Roswell New Mexico, Linda Bayne; brother, Jerry Dixon, her grand dog Remus; along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
