Juan Antonio Escamilla, Jr., 66, of Lubbock, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday night, November 14, 2022. Juan was born on July 12, 1956, in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas to the late Juan Antonio Escamilla, Sr., and Amalia (Romo) Escamilla.
He served two tours of duty with the United States Army, from 1973 to 1976 and from 1978 to 1982, when he was honorably discharged. While in the Army, he served in the 2nd and 3rd Armored Division, helping protect the border in Germany.
He met Estella Contreras, and they were united in marriage on January 1, 1997, in Lubbock.
Juan was a truck driver for 35 years, retiring in 2019 due to ill health. He and his wife were season ticket holders to his favorite football team, the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He also enjoyed Texas Tech basketball, playing golf, camping, boating and travel to one of his favorite locations, Mexico. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Estella; two sons, Isaac Escamilla of Lubbock and Eric Escamilla of New Jersey; one daughter, Amii Escamilla of Lubbock; one stepson, Delshan Martinez of Lubbock; one brother, Manuel Escamilla of Lubbock; three sisters, Linda DeLeon (Porfirio) of Sugarland, Ermelinda Castillo of Houston and Elsa Orosco (Ramon) of Lubbock; five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A time of reflection and visitation will be held from 4 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, Lubbock, TX, with Recitation of the Rosary at 7 PM. Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, November 18, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 102 N. Avenue P, Lubbock, TX. Fathers Raymundo Manriquez and Martin Pina will be the Celebrants. Final rites and interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
Pallbearers will be Isaac Escamilla, Eric Escamilla, Eduardo Contreras, Eric Vaughn, Jeremy Luico, and Jose Comacho, Jr.
The family would like to give special thanks to Floyd Pirtle, MD, Mary Backus, Morgan Parrott, Bob DuPont, Jordan Morgan of Gentiva Hospice, Cornerstone Care Giving and everyone at Crown Point who assisted him in his care.
